My career incorporates talks at events spanning a wide variety of contexts. These talks range from educational lectures in college and church classrooms with 10-30 attendees to conference presentations with similar numbers of attendees. These talks also include assisting a student to present her own research at an educational symposium. Further examples include regular engagements with my fellow cohort, and representing the students in the graduate program in informal, faculty, and interdepartmental meetings. Also, I am often invited to moderate and host entirely non-academic events in the local community. Theological Graduate Organization President (Duquesne University):
Acting alongside a team of several other doctoral students, I served as the official spokesperson and representative of the TGO from 2019-2022, being responsible for presenting the issues and concerns of the TGO—as noted in the meeting minutes—to the Chair and Faculty of the Duquesne Theology Department, and to the University at large as needed. We organized events such as:
1) “Let’s Talk About Comp Exams,” October 11 & 14 2021
Organized and hosted a department-wide Zoom discussion forum to talk through the process and preparations for comprehensive exams.
2) “Let’s Talk About Dissertation Writing, ”October 18 & 21, 2021
Organized and hosted a department-wide Zoom discussion forum to share insights and advice for graduate students in the process of writing and defending dissertations.
3) “Let’s Talk About Teaching Experience,” October 25 & 28
Organized and hosted the department-wide Zoom discussion forum to share our positive and negative teaching experiences as young undergraduate educators.
